I woke up this morning with the idea of writing a blog post about the new iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S and then I said to myself, hang on a minute. I can actually talk about a smartphone revolution? And just like Tracy Chapman, I did! Don’t worry, it’s just my way introduce to you the PhoneBlocs, a new product that Dave Hakkens, designer from the Netherlands, created not so long ago. It’s so far a concept with a slogan that speaks for itself “A phone worth keeping”.
PhoneBlocs offers you the possibility to build your own phone using various blocks that has a common base. Similar to a set of legos you can compose your own phone depending on your own needs. Battery life might be of concern for you and so you can choose a battery that will stay longer. On the other hand if the camera is no more working, you can replace it with a new one. Below you can find a video that explains it all.
Despite the design that I find unappealing so far, compared to what offers the market today, I can see two main points why this phone is coming at an ideal time and thus the demand for such a product might be high:
1- Saving money
PhoneBlocs is a good way to save money just for the fact that you won’t have to buy a phone every two years. In these day and age the financial crisis is affecting more and more people. The United Nation’s agency’s latest report announced a rise of 4m to 197m unemployed individuals in the world between 2011 and 2012 with an expected rise of 6% in 2013. So of course, going through a global financial crisis, saving money is a concern for a lot of us.
PhoneBlocs offers something very unique which is the ability to reduce waste by keeping your phone longer than any phone today. Reducing gas emission is very important for all nations around the globe and so Obama, President of the United States insisted on it in his last visit in Sweden on September 4th, 2013. President Obama and Prime Minister Reinfeldt decided to work together to sensitise other countries.
Overall, PhoneBlocs is a great concept that might be coming at the right time to be part of the solution economically and environmentally. On September 11th, 2013, their FaceBook page was created and only in 6 days they reached more than 14,000 likes. PhoneBlocs is gathering enthusiasts for their concept in order to make it happen the 29th October 2013. If you like the idea and want to join the movement, you can directly go to their website and be part in the phone revolution! http://www.phoneblocs.com/.
